Situation

Ms. B.D. is a 55-year-old woman with chronic back pain and progressive scoliosis. She had been in therapy for back pain for a number of years but the symptoms were getting worse. Her X-rays demonstrated a progressive lumbar scoliosis (Figure 13).

Treatment

Dr. McCormack performed surgery using rods to straighten her spine (Figure 14). After surgery the patient’s pain was improved.

Patient Comment

"I couldn’t live with my back pain. I decided to have surgery with Dr. McCormack because he was really honest about what he could and couldn’t do. Sure my back still bothers me, but the pain is so much better than it was and I can stand straighter now."
